The easiest places to take your first-time driving test in the UK

The easiest place to pass your first-time driving test in the UK has been revealed. And that might be a bit difficult for some of us to get there.

Dorchester in Dorset was revealed to have an average pass rate of 67.3% for first-attempt tests. This gives the historic borough the highest rate in the UK for early testing.

And it seems that the South West is a paradise to pass the first time. Yeovil in Devon is the second easiest place to pass your driving test the first time, with a pass rate of 66.5%.

Abergavenny in South Wales comes third. The figures are part of a new analysis from insurance experts Learner Ingenie. The study looked at the pass rate percentage of the main driving test centers in the UK – those that have carried out at least 1,000 tests since April 2020 – to determine the one with the highest pass rate for the tests. first attempt.

Dorchester came out on top with the highest percentage of first-attempt pass rate of any test center in the UK. This test center has an average pass rate of 67.3%, when analyzing all test passes from April 2020 to June 2021 – out of 1,062 first tests taken, 715 were passed.

Second place is Yeovil in Somerset, which sits just below Dorchester with a success rate of 66.5%. The Dorchester Testing Center assessed 1,080 potential drivers for their first test attempt since April 2020, deeming 718 of them ready to drive.

Abergavenny in Wales is the third easiest test center to pass a first-time driving test in the UK with a pass rate of 65.1%. The Durham Test Center conducted 1,233 first attempt tests and issued 786 licenses, a pass rate of 63.7%.

Warrington ranks as the fifth easiest test center to pass your first-time driving test. Between April 2020 and June 2021, 1,039 first-attempt tests were taken and 659 passed, a pass rate of 63.4%.

Ipswich come sixth in the standings with a pass rate of 63.3%. Bristol (Kingswood) is the seventh easiest UK test center to pass your first time driving test.

In this area, 1,746 tests were carried out and 1,105 driving licenses were issued. Edinburgh (Currie) is in eighth place with a first-attempt test pass rate of 62.2%, while Poole sits just below with a pass rate of 62%.

Ashfield comes in tenth place with a 61.1% pass rate for learner drivers taking their first test. Birmingham (Sutton Coldfield) is the toughest place to pass your first-time driving test in the UK with a pass rate of just 36.5%. Out of 1,015 tests taken, 370 passed.

In total, between April 2020 and June 2021, 248,293 first-attempt tests were taken with 126,742 passing, a pass rate of 51%.

An Ingenie spokesperson said: “The disparity shown in driving test pass rates for first attempts is fascinating. There are several factors that go into a driving test, however, this analysis highlights that there are huge differences between test centers.

“Someone is almost twice as likely to pass their driving test on their first attempt in Dorchester than in Birmingham.”
