Motorists no longer need to have their driving license: here’s how to do it

In accordance with the notification issued by the central government on the basis of the amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act 1989, it is no longer necessary to keep a driving license or an RC booklet (registration card) at handy. Instead, you can store these documents in the mParivahan mobile app and produce them to authorities upon request. It’s 100 percent. acceptable, authenticated and convenient for users.

Here is the simple step by step process to add your driving license details to the mParivahan app:

Step 1: First, download mParivahan app from Google Play Store.

Step 2: Sign up using your mobile number. You will get an OTP. Enter and register on the application.

Step 3: Now you have two choices – DL (Driver’s License) and RC (Registration Certificate).

Step 4: Enter your DL number.

Step 5: To generate a virtual DL, click on “Add to my dashboard”

Step 6: Enter DOB and your DL will be added to your ‘Dashboard’.

At the top of the screen click on the Dashboard button to see your Virtual Drivers License, once clicked your full DL details and a QR code will appear. This code is used by the authorities to scan and obtain all the required information from the specified documents. One can also add the RC book details of their vehicles to the app.

On the mParivahan application, one can add several vehicles belonging to the individual or used by the individual. For example, a husband driving a vehicle registered by his wife can also add the details of the vehicle on his app. Similarly, driver’s license details can be added to multiple mobile devices.

The mParivahan app is designed under the Digital India initiative to make the processes related to verifying information smooth and less cumbersome. The application is available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
