Mercedes-Benz dealership opens driving school for teens to build loyalty

Kory Enders covers the costs for half of the Clements students, while the dealer covers the rest.

Teens learn skills like backing up, evasive lane changes and brake adjustments at the MSR Houston Race Center. The dealer says the drills teach students safe driving and accident avoidance techniques and allow them to experience extreme situations in a controlled environment.

Enders is one of a number of professional drivers who work with the students. The dealership holds four sessions a year – one for Clements and the other for the families of its customers in the Access Program.

“The benefit is we have happy parents, we have safer drivers, smarter drivers and we have our customers’ gratitude, so there’s an intangible benefit,” Brown said. “They know that we are sincerely invested in the safety of their families and, in particular, their children.”

Training begins in the morning with classroom lessons before students take to the wheel. Brown said students, while donning Mercedes-Benz of Sugar Land shirts, learn seated posture, hand and mirror placement, vision and awareness.

Over the years, some students have shared during the introductory portions of class that they have been in rollover accidents. While driving school is supposed to be fun, Brown said these episodes emphasize the importance of the lessons being taught.
