Fresh calls to turn around on closure of South Tyneside driving test center as new figures reveal annual running costs

“By making it harder for young people to succeed, they are taking away opportunities from people,” said Vikki Holt, one of the campaign’s leaders.

The DVSA said the figures do not represent the full cost or overhead of running the test center.

A spokesperson for the organization said: ‘We have made the decision to close the South Shields driving test center as there are other centers nearby where the same services can be relocated and there is no there is no change in the number of tests provided to local applicants.

“Learners do not have to incur additional costs to travel to test centers to learn to drive.

“With more than half of applicants failing their driving test and having to pay for more lessons and take another test, it is safer and better to be properly prepared to drive on any road before driving. try first.

“All tests are carried out to the same standards, so it is essential that learners have the skills to drive safely on all roads and are able to pass their test anywhere, rather than just learn driving test routes.”
