Forest Hills School Board vice president faces impaired driving charge

The President of the Forest Hills Public School Board confirmed to 13 ON YOUR SIDE that Atwater has resigned from his post.

CASCADE, Michigan — The vice president of the Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education has resigned on charges of driving under the influence following a two-car crash in February, according to president Suzanne Callahan. of the Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education. .

Court documents show Martha Walters Atwater, 58, was arrested for drunk driving on February 26 on Hall Road in Cascade Township when she crashed into another vehicle.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at a red light when they said Atwater ran over a stopped vehicle.

No one was injured in the accident.

Atwater faces one count of drunken exploitation. This is her first offense and she has waived trial in the 63rd District Court.

She has posted $100 bond and is due back in court on April 12.

Atwater has worked for the Forest Hills Public School Board since 2010. In addition to her position as Vice President, Atwater was also Chair of the Curriculum Committee and an active member of the Forest Hills Public Schools Foundation.

The Forest Hills Public School Board has already opened the nomination process to fill Atwater’s seat.

President Callahan says the appointee will serve until a successor is elected in regular district elections. Candidates must also be registered voters in the Forest Hills Public School District.
